Words of Wisdom
I've recently been reminded of a couple of my favorite phrases that I've used with my littles. As a new mom, I found these phrases particularly helpful as my children have grown.
The first word of wisdom comes from my mother-in-law who used to tell her children, "You know you don't get what you cry for". This has curbed many appeals where whining might have reared its ugly head. For instance, at the grocery store when you're checking out and your child is wanting that impulse item...a highly sought after candy bar or stuffed animal squeaky toy (thanks PetSmart! LOL)
Now, imagine that you're on a long trip and you hear the haunting question, "Are we there yet" being played out before you. One of my ultimate favorites steps in here provided you've already given your littles an explanation of how long it will take to get to Nana's house, and with a quick "Asked and answered" they're stumped. Now that my littles are a bit older, they like to try and press again for another answer to which they receive those melodic words again "asked and answered" and that tends to quell the inquiry that might otherwise drive a mom insane. LOL In fact, the other day my son, delight of my heart, used this on me. I had a good laugh indeed.
So, if you're ever needing a few key phrases to help you with discipline, try these out and see if these work for you.
