Homeschool Blues | When Bad Days Just Seem To Catch Up With You
Life isn't perfect. Let me rephrase…my life isn't perfect. I confess I like to look like I'm put together. The truth is that I have bad days too. Like today, when I wouldn't allow my daughter to “challenge my authority” and play the piano the way she wanted. Our argument lead to a “fully justified” (in my mind) correction which I spent the rest of the day regretting. I buried myself in reviewing a heaping stack of curriculum loaned to me by friend on the weekend and emotionally shut down. It was a disaster!
Do you have bad days? What do those days look like for you? Do you end up yelling at your kids? Do you think that some other mom that you know has it all put together? After all, her kids are wearing the cutest clothes, they eat organic everything (grown directly from their home garden, of course) and they always obey, right?!
Let's be honest with each other. We need a reality check. We don't need to perform in order to be loved. We don't need to be perfect to instill character. We don't need to have it altogether to keep on going. What we need to do is shed a little grace on ourselves. We need to focus on the One who is capable of giving us the grace that we need. We need to realign our thoughts to our Maker. We must remember who we are in Him, how much we are loved by Him and really hear what He has to say to and about us. Then and only then we can press forward and do what it is we need to do with love for those around us, integrity in our actions, and acceptance of ourselves.
May God bless you and your family today.
